The Top Cap Purge Kit can be used to easily add gas purge capabilities to the J2 and J4 cells. The top cap’s PTFE insert contains three ports: two small tubing ports and one large accessory port.

Two ports are designed to accommodate semi-rigid FEP tubing. Two meters of tubing and the corresponding fittings are included with the kit. By adjusting the length of tubing that extends into the cell, the user can create a long bubbler (i.e., a sub-surface electrolyte purge), a short bubbler for purging the headspace of the cell, or a gas exhaust port. The two small ports are tapped 1/4″-28 and alternatively can be used with a variety of user-supplied standard chromatography fittings, such as those offered by IDEX Corp.

The PTFE insert’s large accessory port is an O-ring compression-style port, similar to the side arm ports of the J2 and J4 cells. It can accommodate any shaft from 4 to 7 mm in diameter. This port can be used to hold a fritted gas dispersion bubbler, an electrode, or an exhaust gas trap. Please note that these accessories are sold separately. If the port is not required, a PTFE plug (included with the kit) can be used to block it off.
